Another lovely week in Year 1, we enjoyed having the instruments out in our music lesson. We’ve also loved using the Whiterose maths app to develop our maths skills.. In art we used pastels and crayons to add details to our watercolour backgrounds. On Thursday and Friday we were pleased to have Miss Christie with us as well! Have a lovely half term break!

We have been enjoying our Fire of London learning this week. We developed our water colour skills to create a fiery background and then painted on the outlines of buildings to create artwork for display. These will be up for you to see at parent’s evening. We are also looking forward to welcoming Miss Christie to Year 1 next week!

We have been using our ball skills in PE, in the role of attackers and defenders. In maths we have been solving additions by counting on on the number line.

Can Pine Cones Tell When It Rains?

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

Today in science we have been planning an investigation to find out if pine cones change in the rain. We decided to leave our five pine cones outside and monitor them over a week, taking a photo each day and recording what the weather was like. We discussed what we thought might happen and wrote our predictions.

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

In PSHE today we have been learning about the PANTS rule using the NSPCC Pantosaurus resources. We talked about how what is in our pants is private and belongs to only us. The children were really mature and thoughtful  and they designed some very funky pants!

Making Smoothies

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

Year 1 had a great time in DT this afternoon making smoothies. Each group learned how to safely chop banana and cucumber and also hulled strawberries before adding our ingredients to the blender. We watched how the smoothie gradually changed colour as it blended. Year 1 enjoyed tasting their smoothies!
