The School Day
The Government is introducing a statutory expectation of a 32.5-hour minimum core school week. The deadline for meeting this expectation is September 2024. For further information, please click on this link: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/length-of-the-school-week-minimum-expectation
Currently our school day is:
- 9:00am - 3:15pm.
- Which means a school day is 6 hours and 15 minutes
- With a school week of 31 hours and 15 minutes
From September 2024 onwards, the official length of the school day will change to 8:50am – 3:20pm. Each day will be 6.5 hours in length, with the total duration of the school week totalling 32.5 hours, which is in line with government statutory expectations for September.
This is how we propose the school day will look:
8:35am – School gates open
8:45am – Doors to the school building are opened.
8:50am – Doors are closed. Registers are taken. Any child who enters via the school office will be marked late
3:20pm – School day finishes

The closing date for comments to be submitted is Monday 20th May 2024. Any comments that are received will be given due consideration and you may be contacted for a further discussion.
Once this consultation period has ended and the Governing Body has made a final decision on the new timings of the school day to commence from September 2024, we will contact parents again to confirm this.
SCHOOL OPENING TIMES
Adel St John the Baptist C of E Primary School opens the gates at 8.45am each morning with classroom doors open from 8:50am to give a ten minute window for children to enter the building and settle into their classrooms. The registers are taken at 9:00am. Cloakroom doors will be closed at this time. So to will the school gates.
GETTING TO SCHOOL AT THE RIGHT TIME
Punctual arrival at school is expected. External doors are locked promptly at 9:00am to ensure children’s safety and for security reasons. If your child arrives late, parents or carers will need to report to the school office where you will be required to record the reason for your child’s lateness on our signing in system.
School finishes at 3.15 p.m.
