• All children should bring a named bottle of water to school. This will be brought home each day to be cleaned and refilled.

• All children need a pair of named, black pumps to wear inside while at school. These can be kept at school to change into each morning.

• All items brought into school (coats, gloves, hats etc should be clearly labelled with your child's name.

• Please send a pair of named wellies for your child to keep in school.

• It is a good idea to provide a spare change of underwear in your child’s bag just in case it is ever required.

• Reading morning will be on a Wednesday, our first reading morning will be 20th September. Parents, carers and siblings are welcome to join us.

Home Learning
•  Your child will bring home their reading books from school on a Thursday and these need to be returned please on the following Thursday

Year 1 Class Blog 2023-24

Another lovely week in Year 1, we enjoyed having the instruments out in our music lesson. We’ve also loved using the Whiterose maths app to develop our maths skills.. In art we used pastels and crayons to add details to our watercolour backgrounds. On Thursday and Friday we were pleased to have Miss Christie with us as well! Have a lovely half term break!

We have been enjoying our Fire of London learning this week. We developed our water colour skills to create a fiery background and then painted on the outlines of buildings to create artwork for display. These will be up for you to see at parent’s evening. We are also looking forward to welcoming Miss Christie to Year 1 next week!

We have been using our ball skills in PE, in the role of attackers and defenders. In maths we have been solving additions by counting on on the number line.

This week we have enjoyed the story of Owl Babies and had a go at typing sentences on the desktop computers. The children have found out about the spacebar, enter and backspace keys!

Happy New Year! It has been lovely to see all the learning happening in Year 1. We have particularly enjoyed exploring with water colour paints. Please could you send pumps back into school if you haven’t already done so.

Another lovely week to finish our first term in Year 1. We have really enjoyed pur party and toy day! A big thank you for all the lovely cards and gifts, we wish you a wonderful Christmas and new year!

Feeling festive this week with our Nativity, Christingle service & Christmas lunch!

Virtual Mosque Tour

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

This week, as part of our RE learning about Muslims, Year 1 enjoyed taking a virtual tour around three different mosques from around the world.  They visited Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, Nasir-al-Mulk Mosque in Iran and Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Oman all from the comfort of our classroom. They could spot the dome, minaret, prayer mats and mihrab that can be found in most mosques. All of the children agreed that the mosques were amazing places of worship and showed good mastery of the VR headsets!

Puppets

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

We had a great day in Year 1 today, focussing on DT and making puppets. We designed our puppets and tested two methods of joining fabric before we got on with making them. Staples was the most popular way of joining the felt, but we also found glue useful for adding details! I am sure you will agree that the finished puppets look fantastic. What a super day Year 1!

In The Groove

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

In music in Year 1 we are learning to perform the song 'In the Groove'. Today we added accompaniment using glockenspiels. We had to find the right notes and play them carefully, in unison, with the right rhythm.

Phonics

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

Every day in Year 1 starts with 30 minutes of phonics. This week we have been focussing on reading and writing different spellings for the sound 'oo'.
