Collective Worship
At Adel St John, we enjoy a daily act of Collective Worship during which, pupils, staff, clergy and visitors are actively involved. Our daily act of Collective Worship is linked to our school vision and our school's Christian Values. Following the Church of England's guidance, our Collective Worship is inclusive, invitational and inspiring.
Our Collective Worship timetable is available below, these are updated termly. The focus for worship links to our school vision, Christian Values and also include some major Christian festivals.
Special celebrations take place at:
Harvest
Advent
Christmas
Holy Week & Easter
John the Baptist Day
Some of these events take place at Adel Church with the whole school attending. This enriches the experience for our pupils, staff and volunteers.
Aims for Collective Worship
- Explore the school’s vision and how that underpins shared values and virtues
- Allow the whole school community to appreciate the relevance of faith in today’s world by encountering the teachings of Jesus and the Bible and developing understanding of Christian belief in the Trinitarian nature of God.
- Offer the whole school community the opportunity to participate in worship in different ways, using music, silence, story, prayer, reflection, as well as through the liturgical and other traditions of the Anglican Church. Ensure that the approach is relevant to the age, aptitude and family background of the children.
- Offer the opportunity, without compulsion, to all children and adults, to grow spiritually through experiences of prayer, stillness, worship and reflection.
- Enable pupils to develop skills through engaging in the planning, leading and evaluation of collective worship in ways that lead to improving practice.
Our School Values
We explore the meanings, significance and impact in our own lives of our school Christian Values through regular acts of worship delivered by our Head Teacher, class teacher, members of Adel Church, Worship Committee and Classes.
In consultation with our children, parents, Governors and staff we believe that the values of love, joy, hope, forgiveness, compassion, patience, generosity, peace, prayerfulness, self-control, faithfulness and justice are the values we want our children to leave our school with. Whilst these values are inclusive of human values, we try to anchor them into the Christian faith by relating them to the Bible through stories and readings.
Each half term has a Christian Value attached and all twelve are covered on a two-year rolling programme as follows:
